“I am a holistic detective. I am a holistic detective. I believe, as you know, in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things”. ~ D.G., Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency
"There's something in the very small minutia of life that tells us something about the big, big picture that we see every day all over the place, and so I think the more specific and creative and revelatory you are in the micro, the more powerful the macro will be" ~ Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Hello Everyone! I hope this page serves as a jumping off point for your health journey. I have always felt that there is a web that connects us in all the realms of our existence - spiritual, mental, physical and emotional.
While each individuals journey in these realms is a very personal one, there are mileposts that can be shared. For a good long while I have understood the connection between soil health and animal health to human health. This connection influences how our farm cares for it's animals and how in the past six years we have transitioned from an intensive tillage system to a no-till deep compost farm.
More recently this adventure has lead me to researching and understanding more about our own diversity of gut micro-organisms and how important they are. Just like feeding the soil food web to grow healthy nutrient dense plants, we must feed ourselves living foods and tend to our human system for optimal outcomes. Living during an era of ever increasing ill health due to nutritional deficiencies in processed food, environmental toxins, and our stress filled culture combined with viral attacks like Covid-19, I feel knowledge is power.
With this in mind, this is a small compendium of links pertaining to this connection. I hope you enjoy exploring these resources and that they start to connect a web of health in your own life. I look forward to hearing about your journey into creating a delicious landscape of ferments and beautiful garden spaces! ~Your Farmer & Amateur Fermentologist Michele, SongHaven Farm
Kirsten Shockey, author of numerous books on fermented food, states that the three motivators for eating fermented foods are food preservation, flavor and health benefits. This resource page centers around the third motivator. I hope that after exploring this page, you will be adventurous and discover the first two motivators in your daily life.
